I was exposed to the teachings of St Louis Marie de Montfort way back in the 90's when I joined the Legion of Mary. I would say that if I am to be slave, and I should be. I would gladly wear "the chain" of being a slave to Mary. This slavery is the easiest kind of slavery for it means that you will no longer labor on your own, and produce your own spiritual fruits. A slave of Mary labors in her vineyard. She gathers our efforts, big or small, perfect or imperfect and like a fruit of an apple tree, she (our Mother Mary) polishes it, removes its imperfections, puts it in a presentable plate, and offers it to the King- our Lord Jesus Christ, who will gladly accept all that His mom offers.
When I say labor and fruit like the apple, I am alluding to our spiritual life, our faith life, our prayers, devotions, masses that we attend, mortifications, spiritual works of mercy...All of these and its fruits and merits we no longer own, and we no longer decide upon on how to use and for whom to give. All of these as slave of Mary, we surrender to her, that she may manage and distribute the graces and merits to whoever and whatever she deem fit. And we like a servant, after we have done our job, wait on Her to assist us to our salvation. As a slave of Mary, we are no longer working for our salvation on our own. We now labor for Mary, who will never fail in leading us to Jesus. To Jesus through Mary!
